For as long as I can remember I’ve had issues with my weight. I spent the majority of my twenties and thirties being unhappy with how I looked and more importantly how I felt.
Over the years I used my circumstances as an excuse, “I’m going to be pregnant soon, what’s the point trying to lose the weight now” then after that there was “I’ve just had a baby, I haven’t got time to exercise or plan”.
I would walk into clothes shops filled with dread, I would admire all the beautiful clothes that I would love to wear. Instead I had to choose something that would minimise how big I looked or something which would cover my large size.
Over the years I had every chance to change whenever I wanted but never did as I always thought the challenge was too great. The amount of weight I had to lose just seemed like an impossible task..”I’ll start tomorrow” i’d tell myself again and again.
After my 4th baby in Feb 2013, I had finally ran out of excuses. It was time to face the truth.. I was unhappy with how I looked and felt and it was time for me to do something about it. My body had been through a lot in the last few years and now it was time to make sure I looked after it. I never felt such determination. I am going to lose weight and start looking after myself.
I wanted to have more energy for the kids, have a healthy attitude to food and exercise. I wanted my kids to have that too and needed to put myself first for a change.
Every Saturday morning I went to Millfield Balbriggan. Upstairs, hidden near the toilets was a weighing machine, I knew nobody would see me there. I printed off my weight and the figures confirmed what I already knew.. I was overweight. Seeing it in black and white just motivated me even more to do something about it. 13stone and 13lbs, just one pound shy of 14 stone and I only 5 ft in height!
I knew that just exercise alone wasn’t going to do it so I started slimming world at home, some walking and a Bokwa class twice per week. I lost some weight but still had a long long way to go to reach my goal. After a while my weight loss just stopped. I was maintaining what I lost but just couldn’t lose anymore.
Wendy, One of the other mums from the school had lost a significant amount of weight and more importantly looked healthy and toned. This is exactly what I was looking for so I asked her how she did it.
She said she started in a gym in stamullen called Atomic Fitness, lifting weights was a big part of the programme… Weights for women??! I wasn’t entirely sure about this at all, but Wendys results were amazing and thought I have to try this…..
So off I went with 2 kids in tow and met with Sean to see what it was all about!! I explained to him how far I had come and where I wanted to go and so began my journey with atomic fitness….
Sean couldn’t have been more friendly, helpful and encouraging when I met him.
It’s always hard making the first step but immediately felt I was in great hands at Atomic fitness.
The first class was amazing and I loved every minute of it! There was no stopping me now….. Week by week I could feel the difference…. and my confidence and strength was growing and growing. People began to comment on how they could see a big difference in me. I even had the confidence to do Hell and Back, something I’d always wanted to do but was too afraid to.
I even did one of the Atomic Fitness challenges and Won! I had lost 10 and a half centimetres off my waist in 4 weeks. I couldn’t believe the difference in such a short space of time, more importantly I had maintained what weight I had lost and learned all about nutrition in the process… Something which has become invaluable to me. I felt so proud of myself.
Every four weeks they change up our programmes to ensure we are constantly advancing towards our goals. Perfect for losing weight and increasing your strength.
I am now a size 8 dress. I only ever dreamed of being a healthy weight for my height. Right now, I am where I always wanted to be. Happy in myself. Life is great.
I have lost a total of 5 stone and 8lb’s in total since I started on my weight loss journey.
For the first time in my life I am not consumed with my weight or weight loss.
My new goals are to become stronger and more toned. I am so proud of myself now. The only regret I have is that I didn’t start sooner.
Sean and Adam are amazing trainers and bring the best out in you even though you may doubt yourself they believe in your abilities and are fantastic at giving you that extra push and any advice you need.
The saying goes “Surround yourself with people who encourage and believe in you and you will go far” you will find an abundance of these people in atomic fitness. Everyone is so friendly, kind and encouraging.
The feeling you get challenging yourself and then conquering those challenges is the most amazing feeling ever.
